‘He’s a sneaky b*****d!’ Olivia Colman admits Broadchurch cast turned on writer Chris Chibnall for twists in series two’
Here is what Olivia Colman had to say on Broadchurch series two, and show creator Chris Chibnall!
Fans have less than a week to go till the second series of Broadchurch kicks off, and if Olivia Colman’s reaction is anything to go by, it’s set to have a shocking start.
The BAFTA winner said the cast turned on writer Chris Chibnall after they got together to go over the script for this first time, during an interview with Glamour recently.
The 40-year-old, who plays Detective Ellie Miller, admitted the latest installment of the ITV drama includes elements that she herself and her fellow co-stars, including David Tennant, had never considered before.
Speaking to the February edition of the magazine, the actress said: ‘You find out very early on in the first episode which direction it’s going in and it’s an instant, ‘Whoooa!’
‘Chris set up a lot of things that we never even thought about in the first series… At the read-through we were going, ‘You sneaky b*****d’.’
The second season starts on Monday and a short trailer has been released, however very little is known about the plot.
Her character’s life was ripped apart in series one when she discovered her own husband had killed schoolboy Danny Latimer.
The new teaser opens with Olivia and David, who returns as DI Alec Hardy, sat on the sweeping cliffs of Dorset before it soon becomes apparent that the aftermath of the 11-year-old’s murder is still causing turmoil in the sleepy resort.
When asked about if she managed to solve the murder the first time round, she commented: ‘David and I were genuinely the worst detectives in the world, because we thought everyone had done it.’
Although some familiar faces remain, including the mourning parents Mark and Beth Latimer (Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan), Rev. Paul Coates (Arthur Darvill) and local reporter Olly Stevens (Jonathan Bailey), some new residents have arrived – including characters played by Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James Darcy and Charlotte Rampling.
