She was the high-kicking feisty copper in Torchwood and the titular district nurse in BBC One’s Frankie, managing to out-do the likes of Holby and Casualty in the emotional drama stakes.
Now Welsh actress Eve Myles is set to join Hollywood actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste for the new series of hit programme Broadchurch.
Filming begins shortly but to get you in the mood, we came up with some things you really should know about her.
1. She’s an Ystradgynlais girl
Born in in 1978, Eve went to Ysgol Maes Y Dderwen where she was in the same class as fellow actor and Baker Boys star Steve Meo.
2. And a sexy one at that
In 2013, the public voted her the Sexiest Woman in Wales on a WalesOnline poll. On hearing the news she burst out laughing and said: “I’m sorry for laughing, but if you could see the size of me this morning and my hair…”
3. Not to mention a Daffta winner
That’s right, forget the Baftas. Our Dafftas celebrate the best of Welsh talent and Eve was named ‘Best Actress’ for her role in BBC Wales’ Frankie. Well deserved too, we reckon.
4. Sorry fellas, she’s off the market
Eve got married in Italy last year. The ceremony was so exclusive, it only had one guest – her three-year-old daughter Matilda!
Of course, the other guest was her partner of 15 years – fellow actor Bradley Freegard from Pontypridd.
The wedding was a long-time coming for Eve and Brad, who first met in the National Youth Theatre during the 1990s. The Torchwood star said their busy professional life got in the way in the past.
5. She announced her baby news in marker pen
Eve discovered the news she was expecting her second child when she took a pregnancy test in her Cardiff gym.
“I was going to a spin class after coming back from our wedding and I had an inkling,” she said.
“So I did took the test while Brad was waiting upstairs for me. After I found out, I went to the front desk to get a permanent marker pen and wrote up my arm, ‘We’re going to need a bigger boat!’ It’s a bit of an in-joke between us as we love Jaws.
“Instantly Brad knew and we started jumping up and down. People must have been wondering what the hell was going on but it’s a wonderful feeling when you find out.”
6. The role of Gwen in Torchwood was written for her
Lead writer for Doctor Who Russell T Davies was so impressed with Eve that he created the character with her in mind. She said it was like having her “own personal Oscar”.
7. Belonging was her longest role to date
Eve took on the role of Ceri Owen (Née Lewis) in the BBC drama in 2000 through to its final series in 2008, returning for a one off special in 2009.
8. She’s a serious actress too
She starred alongside Scrubbs star Zach Braff in his production of All New People in 2012, but before that she was in The Taming of the Shrew ,Titus Andronicus, and Henry IV – Part I & II.
