Davies has revealed that he is happy with the show’s new ten-episode format.

He told SFX that the new series length was perfect for the storyline he had planned for the upcoming fourth series.

“It’s not a Lost-type story, full of mystery, and it’s not particularly complicated – it’s more linear,” he said. “Ten parts just gives us a chance to move it on to the international stage where it takes place.”

The writer promised that the new episodes will take place on a wider scale than previous series.

“The vast majority’s going to take place in America – and other countries as well – so it’s got a size to it. It’s a proper, big, global ten-hour thriller.”

EveMyles.net 2.5 http://evemyles.net/2010/07/26/evemyles-net-2-5/ http://evemyles.net/2010/07/26/evemyles-net-2-5/#comments Mon, 26 Jul 2010 20:15:49 +0000 Brian http://evemyles.net/?p=2517 It has been almost a year since we changed the site design from a standard HTML site to one based on database-driven pages and content. There were several reasons for the change, of which include easier navigation, easier maintenance and better search engine optimization. When doing a search for “Eve Myles,” we are now at the #1 position of Google and Yahoo search engines, and we rank at the #2 position on Bing, but sometimes show up in the #1 spot.

Over the past, few months there have been some changes to the look and content of the site. Some were subtle changes while others were much more noticeable.

Here are just a few things that have improved, are still in the works, or have changes forthcoming.

Video Showcase

The Video Showcase page is still in beta, but it is close to being complete. The focus has shifted to cater to casting directors, studio executives, filmmakers, etc, that can watch video clips of some of Eve’s performances. Video is taken from the highest quality sources (where possible) with no copyright infringement intended. There will be at least 25-50 video clips from a variety of Eve’s work shown here.

Video Showcase

While I may not have any expertise in the TV and film industry, this page should reflect some of the better performances by Eve Myles.

Photo Gallery

The photo gallery has gone through a few changes. The recent integration of the gallery and the website has made it a bit better to navigate in and out of. In addition, a mod pack was installed for better visuals on the thumbnails.

A plan to bridge the gallery to the forum is coming, so, if you are a member of the forum you will be able upload images after logging in. The point here is there will be no need to have a different user name and password because you will never have to log in to the gallery itself. In addition, there is a software upgrade coming down the pike, but I am waiting for the bugs to be worked out before taking on the task.

Forums

There is not much to mention here from a technical sense other than the integration of the forum with the website, which added better navigation and visual appeal. I have messed around with different styles, but the current one is the best one I could find that was simple, clean and works well with the integration. Recently installed was a “Thanks” mod in order to give gratitude to other members that have been helpful. Forum members can keep track of their thanks given and thanks received by looking at their profile or by clicking on the “Gratitude’s” link in the top navigation bar (you must be logged in to view it). See this post for more information on this mod.

One thing that would be nice to see is more people joining the forum because the membership is still on the low side. If there is anything to be disappointed about with the site over the past year, it is the low forum membership. A number of factors could be the cause of this, but if I had to guess it would be that Facebook and Twitter have become the preferred outlets to chat with other fans. It is no surprise given their popularity.

I hope that the forum memberships will pick up once we see Eve in something new again. If you haven’t joined the forum, you can register for free here.

Social networking

Adding Twitter and Facebook has really helped drive more traffic to the site and we’re seeing an increasing amount of followers since connecting. Thanks a lot to Gage Hanson and forum member GwenCooperWilliams for their generosity.

Articles

Over the next year, there is a plan to start a series of ‘Torchwood’ articles. These are going to be short articles that will focus on Eve’s role as Gwen Cooper. These articles will include video clips and will feature a brief summary. The idea behind this is to get a look at how far Eve has come since the first episode of Torchwood aired. Her earlier work appears overshadowed by her work on Torchwood, so it only seems fitting to focus on her biggest role to date.

For those that have been waiting for Part 2 of the ‘Belonging’ article, it should be out in the next month or two.

Website contributors

There is always an opening here if you want to post articles or news. You can also re-post news (copy and paste) from other sites as long as a source is given. News posts can be on anything that relates to Eve Myles in some way. If you are from Wales or visited there, it would be great to see some articles about your experiences.

Drop me a line if you are interested.

Contact information

A contact form has been added to the Contact page for your convenience. Use it only for website requests, information, etc. All requests for Eve Myles should be sent to her talent agency.

We’ve come a long way, baby

EveMyles.net launched in December of 2007. The original site design was from another site I did back in 2004. It had a very dark and film noir look to it and was somewhat ugly. Nevertheless, a few graphic changes were made to it and the rest is history (along with the design).

I don’t have a screencap of the original site design, but here’s a heavily modified version of it that dates back to April of 2009.

EveMyles.net (2009)

Toward the end, it was proving to be too much of a hassle to update the main page and archive the older news posts because it was a manual process. It had evolved into a nice looking design, but times have changed and moving to a CMS has made it much easier to work on.

The future

What does the future hold for this website? Well, I have been looking at some new themes, but have no plans to make a change to the look of it right now. Some may find it odd that I went with a Wales look rather than using one of those cookie cutter “movie star” designs. Well, for one, I did not want the site to look generic and cluttered. Secondly, Eve loves her country of origin and is very proud of her Welsh heritage. I wanted to reflect that in the overall design to make it more personal. Admittedly, it could look a little better and maybe a bit more professional, but then it would lose its charm because it would give off more of a bland, corporate look.

I am hoping to get in contact with Eve to do an interview for the site. Impossible? Probably. Nevertheless, it would be great to get the chance to talk to her. I would simply ask for 5-10 minutes of her time, more if she agreed to it. How does one go about setting up an interview? Do you contact her talent agency? I know these places tend to frown on these types of requests from fans, but there might be a slight chance of getting an interview. Heck, if a person from Daily Lounge can do it then it can be done.

Finally, have I thought about quitting? Sure, but eventually I will get out of one of my rotten moods and then get the urge to get back to work, be creative, etc. I really like this stuff, but there are days when you just need to break away from it. If I ever decide to leave then I will probably ask someone else to take it over in order to keep the support for Eve going. However, with the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, there may be no need to.

RTD: ‘New Torchwood is very dark’ http://evemyles.net/2010/07/23/rtd-new-torchwood-is-very-dark/ http://evemyles.net/2010/07/23/rtd-new-torchwood-is-very-dark/#comments Fri, 23 Jul 2010 19:45:17 +0000 Brian http://evemyles.net/?p=2523 SFX Magazine has posted an interview they did with Russell T. Davies, the creator of Torchwood and the new Doctor Who series. In the interview, Davies explains that the story in the next series of Torchwood, when compared to Children of Earth, will also be “very dark.”

Here are just a few snippets from this interview.

So, did you always know you’d be doing more Torchwood?

“Well it was always possible. I remember when Children Of Earth launched, you always get asked, ‘Is this is the end or will it continue?’ and there’s no true answer to that because you’re always in a state of suspension – if it ends, it ends and if it carries on, it carries on. It’s too soon to give away the story, but I’ve always had this story in mind, and the whole existence of season four will make sense once you know what the story is. I’d already moved out here, and it’d sort of been half in development, and then once those viewing figures came in it went into proper development. Actually, Jane Tranter [head of BBC Worldwide's American arm] planned this more than I ever did. For many years she was going to move out here and do this job, and she’s always wanted dramas that could move onto that sort of scale and be funded in this way, so it all fitted with her plan really – it all just sort of naturally fell into place. And if no-one had ever bought it I’d now be telling you it was naturally dead!”

Children Of Earth went to some very dark places…

“Do you think?! Actually, this story is also very dark.  I think with that, Torchwood found its feet. People found something very compelling and very chilling about it. I love the way people got on their high horse saying, ‘Oh, he killed his grandson!’ Hello! He saved every single child in the world! If you would fail to do that then you’re the monster, frankly. It’s this extraordinary treatment that only science fiction heroes get You find that. If ever a word is said out of place by the Doctor or Captain Jack, or even by Sarah Jane sometimes,  people throw their hands up in horror, whereas in any other drama any character is capable of any thing at any time. That’s the only way to write, and it’s the same for these people as well.  I thought it was fascinating and challenging what he did there, but hard – it was so hard. I do think with the whole of Children Of Earth we found a new heartland for Torchwood.

You can read the rest of the interview here.

More information on the the next series of Torchwood can be found in SFX Magazine issue #199. It’s on sale from Wednesday 28 July.

‘Torchwood’ begins casting for Series 4 http://evemyles.net/2010/07/16/torchwood-begins-casting-for-series-4/ http://evemyles.net/2010/07/16/torchwood-begins-casting-for-series-4/#comments Fri, 16 Jul 2010 18:55:23 +0000 Brian http://evemyles.net/?p=2508 Aiming to be bigger and better than before, production is now underway on the fourth season of BBC’s “Torchwood,” which will see the return of Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) for some alien crime fighting.

As previously reported, this season will take the Torchwood team out of Cardiff, Wales, and instead send them into an international playing field. Both stars — the only survivors from the first three seasons –- have signed on for the 10-episode season, and a search is now underway to attract talent from both sides of the Atlantic.

Among those being sought after is a leading CIA agent that the team will interact with during their jet-setting, an analyst and a sinister new villain.

“Rex Matheson is a white, 20-something CIA agent who sounds sort of like FX’s animated ‘Archer’ spy: a fearless, cocky thrill seeker,” TV Guide revealed. “Recurring characters include Esther Katusi, a newbie Watch Analyst in the CIA who is deeply (and secretly) in love with Rex. And Oswald Jones is the dangerous psychotic villain. He’s a 40-something murderer and pedophile who gets sprung from the slammer into the spotlight.”

News that the series will return for a 10-part season also will please fans who were left slightly disappointed when the series dispelled its usual 13-episode format for a five-part miniseries last year. However, “Children of Earth” –- which ran over five consecutive days as a television event -– was a ratings success for the BBC, and brought in an audience in excess of 6 million.

In addition, “Torchwood” also has attracted BBC America’s best audience when more than a half-million viewers tuned in to see Capt. Jack Harkness in 2007 (nearly 300,000 of which were from the key audience demographic of adults 25 to 54).

Now the show will make an American debut on the premium cable channel Starz! after Fox passed on doing a continuation series of its own.

Flashback: Tales From Pleasure Beach http://evemyles.net/2010/07/14/flashback-tales-from-pleasure-beach/ http://evemyles.net/2010/07/14/flashback-tales-from-pleasure-beach/#comments Wed, 14 Jul 2010 19:51:32 +0000 Brian http://evemyles.net/?p=2406 Ready for another trip down memory lane? With summer here and very little going on at the moment, I thought it would be the perfect time to dig out a rare find of a three part drama series that Eve Myles did way back in 2001. Some of you may remember it and maybe were lucky to have seen it when it first aired. But, for those of you that didn’t, here’s another glimpse at the early work of Eve Myles.

Take me back to 2001

Tales From Pleasure Beach is described as a “darkly comic three part drama series about people who work in the funfair of a Welsh seaside town and live in the adjoining trailer park. Cinematically filmed and resonant with kitsch seaside glamour, these are very contemporary stories of desire and betrayal, pulling and pinching, getting wasted and getting away.” — Blast Films

Eve starred in the second episode called “Lush.” Here is a brief synopsis:

Angie (Eve Myles) and her best mate Karen (Siwain Morris) are an inseparable pair of party animals. They go out together, get steaming together and always pull together. Observing Angie’s dictum that men aren’t to be trusted, their golden rule is that they should never go back to the same bloke twice.

This friendship is jeopardised when Karen does the unthinkable and falls for a laddish local builder called Sonny (Richard Lynch). As Karen starts spending more time in with Sonny and less time out on the town with her, Angie begins to feel neglected and her jealousy starts to take hold. Fueled by the secret of her past relationship with Sonny, Angie does everything in her power to get Karen to dump him. One night, after Angie and Karen have had a terrible row, Karen sets out to prove that Sonny, like all men, will stray if he’s given the opportunity – by seducing him herself.

A half-naked Eve Myles

What follows are three video clips taken from this episode. The first and third video clips can be found easily on the internet while the second video clip is not as easy to obtain.

This first video clip features the intro to the series with music. Eve can be seen at the :16 mark.

The second video clip shows Eve in a scene where her character, Angie, talks to Karen about her boyfriend’s “special needs.” Eve appears to be wearing only a shirt in this scene and is smoking a cigarette. While it’s brief, you do get an idea of the character she had to play.

The second scene in this video clip shows Angie and Karen at a night club. Here you get a sense of anger from the character because she feels that her friend is making a big mistake.

media

The final video clip features a subdued love scene.

You may have noticed (among other things) Eve looking at the camera for a split second at around the :08 second mark. I wonder if this was her first love scene in a film or if she was just nervous? Comment if you think you know.

Conclusion

There was very little to work with here, but I will say that Eve’s work in TV/film was really good back then. This was a big step up from Hang the DJ and probably on par with her early work in Belonging. Her acting is very natural and is truly believable—a sign of a great actress that goes on to bigger and better things, reaching fame and fortune in the process.

And Eve has earned every bit of it.

Notes

While it would have been great to view the entire episode, I was only able to get a few snippets from it. I may end up contacting Blast Films to see about getting this series for myself or ask them about releasing it on DVD.

There’s some additional footage of the love scene featured in the Media Forum on this site. To see it you will need to register and make a few posts before you can access it. It’s of higher quality and a bit more detailed if that matters to you.

‘Torchwood’ star can’t wait to start new series http://evemyles.net/2010/07/06/torchwood-star-cant-wait-to-start-new-series/ http://evemyles.net/2010/07/06/torchwood-star-cant-wait-to-start-new-series/#comments Tue, 06 Jul 2010 16:18:10 +0000 Charlie http://evemyles.net/?p=2316 TORCHWOOD star Eve Myles has revealed how she is nervously preparing to move her family across the Atlantic.

The 31-year-old will be starring in the American version of the hit sci-fi show and will be jetting off at the end of the year with partner Brad and baby daughter Matilda.

And she’s even got her beloved dog Honeysuckle a passport – so she can go too.

Eve, who gave birth to Matilda last November, is looking forward to the big move, after it was announced that Torchwood would be moving Stateside for a new series to be aired in 2011.

The Ystradgynlais actress, who now lives in Cardiff, said: “I’ve been enjoying some really lovely times with Matilda.

“She’s seven months old and is just adorable. She is sleeping right through the night and she is just fantastic. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Since she came along I’ve woken up every day with a smile on my face. She is just so lovely and pleasant, she is always laughing and I’ve been relishing every minute.

“Nothing I’ve ever done before comes close to how it feels to have Matilda. She is so beautiful, a carbon copy of her daddy with the same turquoise eyes. But I’m pleased to say it looks as if she’s got my famous gap, so that’s good news.”

And now Eve is preparing for an even busier few months.

Eve Myles in Torchwood: Children of Earth

Eve Myles in Torchwood: Children of Earth

She said: “Things are starting to pick up again work-wise. I’m about to sign for a BBC Wales TV remake of The Fabulous Baker Boys and I’ve got another film in Bulgaria and then we start shooting the new Torchwood in January.

“Matilda and Brad are coming with me but I couldn’t possibly not take Honey too as we are going to be there for seven-and-a-half months.

“So it’s all sorted. She’s got a new passport and we are raring to go.”

But Eve, who plays feisty Gwen Cooper in the show, admits she’s very nervous about upping sticks, even though she will be starring alongside her good friend John Barrowman.

She said: “To be honest, I am quite nervous and apprehensive but then I still get nervous every time I start a new job and then as soon as I’ve filmed the first day I calm down a bit.

“We’re not sure yet whether we are going to be living in Los Angeles or Canada but Torchwood is already very popular in America and I had no idea exactly how big it was until I was in Washington DC and I saw myself on the back of a bus. Weird. It’s got an absolutely massive fan base, it’s been the number one sci-fi show for the past three years out there.

“I haven’t managed to see John much but we get on so well that as soon as we start working it will be like we’ve been together for weeks.”

Eve has been with fellow actor Bradley Freegard for several years and, despite wearing an eternity ring on her wedding finger, she said she had not married Brad yet – but promises she will do one day in the future.

She said: “I was pictured with the ring on my wedding finger but it’s not a wedding ring. It’s the eternity ring Brad bought for my 30th birthday.

“I will marry him one day. It’s something we’ve talked about but, at the moment, we’re too busy. Maybe we’ll wait until there are a few Myles-Freegards running around the place.”

The Bafta-winning actress, who lives in Cardiff with her partner Brad Freegard, was recognised by the city’s Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD).

Eve, who plays feisty Gwen Cooper in the hit Doctor Who spin-off series, graduated from the college with an arts degree in 2000.

She accepted the honorary fellowship at a graduation ceremony in St David’s Hall. The 31-year-old joined Hay Festival director Peter Florence and the award-winning theatre designer Richard Hudson in the roll of honour.

RTD talks ‘Torchwood’ Series 4, ‘Doctor Who’ http://evemyles.net/2010/06/09/rtd-talks-torchwood-series-4-doctor-who/ http://evemyles.net/2010/06/09/rtd-talks-torchwood-series-4-doctor-who/#comments Wed, 09 Jun 2010 14:04:15 +0000 Brian http://evemyles.net/?p=2244 BBC News recently did an interview with Russell T. Davies, creator and writer of both Doctor Who (new series) and Torchwood. This comes on the heels of the announcement a few days ago that BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Worldwide and Starz Entertainment will be co-producing the next series of Torchwood.

Here’s the video clip of that interview, but after watching it you’ll learn very little of the next series of Torchwood. Apparently RTD doesn’t want to spoil us this early in the development cycle.

Torchwood Series 4 is set to air in the summer of 2011 and, according to the Torchwood Wikipedia page, both John Barrowman and Eve Myles are set to return to play their recurring roles. The new series has been brought down from the reported 13 episodes to just 10, and the storylines will take place in different  locations around the world.

I’m really glad that RTD and his crew got a major U.S. cable TV network to help get the next series of Torchwood off the ground. Fans were getting worried that there may not be another series, so this should end all of the speculation that’s been going around the web.

Now we can all sleep better at night. : )

BBC confirms fourth series of ‘Torchwood’ http://evemyles.net/2010/06/07/bbc-confirms-fourth-series-of-torchwood/ http://evemyles.net/2010/06/07/bbc-confirms-fourth-series-of-torchwood/#comments Mon, 07 Jun 2010 20:52:25 +0000 Charlie http://evemyles.net/?p=2222 The BBC have officially confirmed the fourth series of Torchwood according to Digital Spy. Details are still a bit murky, but the show is definitely back in business!

The BBC has announced that Torchwood is to return for a fourth series.

The sci-fi drama, which is a spinoff to Doctor Who, will air a ten-part run following an international partnership between the corporation and US premium network Starz Entertainment.

Russell T Davies will continue to write the series. It has also been revealed that plots are to go beyond Cardiff to locations worldwide.

“We have a long history of working with many US networks but it is incredibly exciting to be working with Starz for the first time, as well as to be reunited with the best of British in Russell, Jane [Tranter] and Julie [Gardner],” said Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC drama commissioning. “Torchwood will burst back onto the screen with a shocking and moving story with global stakes and locations that will make it feel bigger and bolder than ever.”

Jane Tranter of BBC Worldwide commented: “Torchwood has attracted remarkable attention and loyalty in both the UK and US, and in this new partnership with Starz, the next chapter will not only reward our current fans, but also introduce new viewers to the most impressive instalment yet.”

Meanwhile, Starz president Chris Albrecht added: “We’re committed to programming exceptional television that is entertaining, imaginative and provides a premium TV experience, and by any measure the new concept for Torchwood fits that mandate.”

Torchwood stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack and Eve Myles as Gwen.

This page was just an affiliate of ours, but it just seemed wrong to let a great fan page go unnoticed.

The owner, Gage Hanson, has done a beautiful job with the page and shows the spirit of a dedicated fan. While there are other Facebook pages devoted to Eve Myles, Gage Hanson’s is simply the best one out there. He covers many of the news posts you find on EveMyles.net and has posted many pictures.

Right now we need to see more discussion take place there, so do yourself a favor and join this page if you have a Facebook account. If you don’t, I really encourage you to do so. Right now there are 149 members and I really hope to see this number grow.

A big thanks to Gage Hanson for all your hard work! It’s just more proof that Eve Myles has the greatest and most dedicated fans.
