Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies has revealed that he is happy with the show’s new ten-episode format.
He told SFX that the new series length was perfect for the storyline he had planned for the upcoming fourth series.
“It’s not a Lost-type story, full of mystery, and it’s not particularly complicated – it’s more linear,” he said. “Ten parts just gives us a chance to move it on to the international stage where it takes place.”
The writer promised that the new episodes will take place on a wider scale than previous series.
“The vast majority’s going to take place in America – and other countries as well – so it’s got a size to it. It’s a proper, big, global ten-hour thriller.”
I think it would be a lot better if it was set in Cardiff still and that it has been ruined by it being filmed in the US, because it made the UK proud of at least one good TV programme and now that it is being filmed in the US it has also become an american programme which is such a shame. I used to live in America, in Malibu, and it wasn’t that good. Now I live in Cardiff, Wales, and it is the best. So I hope they will be a series five and that it will go back to being filmed in Cardiff!
it’s annoying how it’s in america :( i love wales and i want it to be set there! i know the hub was destroyed in series 3 but i’m sure torchwood would be able to get past that!
I agree, but because of BBC’s budgetary issues, it’s going to be shot in America or Canada.
Some of it will be filmed in Wales, but it looks like the majority of it will be shot in Los Angeles or BC, Canada (probably Vancouver). They won’t be able to replicate the city of Cardiff, but they might be able to make it look like some other location in Wales or just pretend it’s Cardiff.
Sounds great, though it will be painful watching 1 story over 10 physical weeks. Nice to have Torchwood around for a long time but I did enjoy the ‘every night’ format of series 3 as you really got swept along with it. It will be like watching 24 when it was on TV, by the next week you have forgotten slightly what happened and also forget that for them its still the same day!
